The actress with the other rallyists were blocking the road that leads to a coal mine in Raleigh County. They were advocating against the “opencast mountaintop mining”. The protestors claim that this mining practice has unfavorable effects on the environment.
According to Hannah, “There is no need to destroy our planet to power our future. I have been on renewable energy for about 20 years, so I know it works.”
Hannah is not the only Hollywood star, who opts to go environmental and advocate a cause such as animal rights while earning some publicity for it. Musician, Mark Hoppus of Blink 182, a self-professed advocate of animal rights and environmental protection, showed his dedication for the cause on his Twitter account when he posted a comment about buying a $1000 octopus prop so he does not have to use a real one for a photo shoot.
MarkHoppus: I’m doing a photo shoot this week and paying nearly $1000 for a movie octopus prop so a real one does not have to die. do I get an award?

The twit was, apparently, spot on for PETA. The organization even gave their nod to the musician as posted on one of their PETA files.
