Willie Aames sets the record straight

So what happened to Willie Aames that he tried to kill himself last Thanksgiving?

The star of “Charles in Charge” said that there are three reasons that made him try to kill him self last Thanksgiving. In an interview with Star magazine he said, "Most people wind up in a psychiatric ward because they'd either lost a job, a family member or relocated. I was there for all of those."


Last year, Aames life was in a dramatic downfall starting from his declaration of bankruptcy. After that, his wife left him and he had no one to turn to. He then decided to leave Kansas and move to Los Angeles where a friend rented his room to Aames.

There he became depressed and succumbed to taking alcohol and drugs. He said that after being sober for 20 years, he again started drinking as well as mixing different anti depressants with his drinks.

"It got so bad, I put a knife to my throat and cut myself in six places," he said. "The police came, put me in handcuffs and whisked me away. I was completely devastated... I kept asking, 'What did I do wrong?'"

According to a christian magazine, the actor is known for playing Tommy Bradford on 'Eight is Enough' as well as being Buddy Lembeck on 'Charles in Charge.'
